Josh Levy
artist and musician
Josh Levy, founder of Workspace 38, works in many media as diverse as the projects he finds himself committed to. Originally from Golden, Colorado, he has spent nearly two decades studying and producing art and music throughout the country. Josh spent his youth highly focused on classical and world percussion. Over the years he became highly proficient in guitar, bass, harmonica, and with vocals. His love for composition and performance led to a BFA in Music Studies at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA where he studied with John Bergamo, Swapan Chaudhuri, Miroslav Tadic, amongst others. Upon returning to Denver in the Late 90's, Josh began to take a strong interest in the relationship between the visual, performing, and the sonic arts. He spent a season accompanying for the Kim Robard Modern Dance Company while also running the open mic night at the Mercury Cafe.

Sculpting became a major part of Josh's life as he worked as an assistant to Bill Kinsey of Eye Candy Sculpture in Denver. While learning techniques applied to commercial art he began a body of his own gallery oriented work. The work challenged the complex ideologies between organic and synthetic materials and the forms they create. In 2004 Josh received his MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

For several summers Josh spent his time teaching music and art at the Appel Farm Arts and Music Center in Elmer, New Jersey. His last summer there was spent implementing the Recording Arts Program which spawned the early notions of the recording/rehearsal space at Workspace 38.

In addition to the forming of Workspace 38, Josh continues to develop new bodies of work that reflect his interest in the relationships between sound, light, form, and how they effect the psyche.
